I vividly remember walking past abundant wild flowers that led to a peaceful and beautiful pond during my childhood. From that point on, the pond and its reflection of birds and the sky formed the basis of my aesthetic sense. This stems from the work based on Chuangtzu, an  ancient Chinese philosopher who coined the term “ Heavenly Harmony(天和).” This emotional experience outlined a central theme in my early artwork, which is reflected in Pond Series.

This collection of work was created with “Bunche,” a traditional Korean pigment that utilizes naturally-made substances grinded into powder form. Mastering the usage and technique of “Bunche” has taken up over a decade of my life. Despite losing its educational foundation because of complicated and time-consuming traditional  techniques, the precious legacy is still preserved in contemporary Korean painting.
